Alliance for Low Carbon Fuels Issues Statement Following LCFS Adoption

Sam Wade, Director of Public Policy from the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas today released the following statement following the California Air Resources Board adoption of the updated Low Carbon Fuels Standard:

"Today's decision from the California Air Resources Board is a resounding victory for all Californians. California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard remains a nation-leading program that's reducing our state's greenhouse gas emissions, creating thousands of green jobs, and cleaning our air for future generations. The program has already prevented millions of metric tons of carbon pollution while spurring unprecedented innovation in clean transportation technologies. Now, more than ever, California must continue its unwavering commitment to fight climate change, protect public health, and give companies the regulatory certainty they need to invest in groundbreaking technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality. This decision reinforces California's role as a global leader in climate action and demonstrates that environmental protection and economic growth can go hand in hand."

The Alliance for Low Carbon Fuels includes environmental organizations, public health advocates, industry leaders, and community groups who are united in their support for the LCFS. Together, they advocated for CARB to continue California’s progress in reducing emissions, promoting cleaner fuel alternatives, and safeguarding the most vulnerable communities.

The LCFS is working.

In 2022 alone, the LCFS reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 26 million metric tons – the equivalent of taking 5.8 million gas-powered cars off the road.

In 2022 vehicles powered by low-carbon fuels:

  • Reduced GHG emissions equivalent to 13,962,408,76 miles driven by the average passenger car

  • Reduced CO2 emissions equal to 632,947,114 gallons of gasoline consumed

  • Sequestered carbon equal to growing 93,009,875 tree seedlings for ten years
